Dozens of nationalities are represented at ALX. We actively recruit from across Africa and the world, ensuring our team reflects the communities we build and serve.

"If you are afraid, do it afraid," says Irene Aragona, Community Manager for our Software Engineering Program. "Mistakes are genuinely welcomed as part of your learning and growth."

Two years ago, the Italian-native wasn't searching for her current role. After discovering ALX through a LinkedIn article, she fell in love with the mission. Now working remotely from Lisbon, she turns ideas into community-building initiatives, spending three months in Rwanda with colleagues and eyeing Nigeria next.

What drives her is simple: "Interacting with learners. Half of my ideas came from daily conversations with them, which means 'my ideas' become 'our ideas'.

"Don't be afraid to hustle," says Tony Camme, Communications Specialist. "Every challenge taught me to find new ways forward."

From leaving his US home at 17 to shaping our unique brand voice in Cape Town, Tony's journey shows how persistence creates possibility. As "the words guy," he connects our transformative mission with diverse markets across Africa, drawing on years of community development work with multiple NGOs.

"Working for a greater cause teaches you to think under pressure," he shares while balancing work with boxing and rock climbing. This purpose-driven approach keeps him grounded even as he helps build Africa's tech future, always with characteristic humour.

"Work should be not just productive, but truly engaging," says Teeran Bhooal, People Experience Lead. "With the right people and mindset, ambitious ideas can become reality."

From her base in sunny Mauritius, Teeran designs experiences that help employees thrive. Her journey began with guiding students at just 18, evolving into a career shaping the entire employee lifecycle, from onboarding to leadership development.

Teeran also led the efforts of our first-ever multi-city All Staff Retreat. "Managing an experience across multiple locations felt like a massive undertaking," she reflects. "But it proved that with coordination, adaptability, and collective effort, we can achieve what seems impossible together".

Working remotely while still feeling deeply connected to my team has been remarkable. Our collaboration transcends physical boundaries – we're united by our mission.​
